Please check the about and the questions page for more information about this site and about what this site, the terms on it, and the experiences it describes are and are not.
The term "shaper" is not used by shapers themselves. While shaping is an old phenomenon - basically as old as plurality and abuse are - the terminology for it that this site uses are very new.
Therefore, if you accuse someone of "shaping" your system, most people will probably not know what you mean. Given that most types of shaping can be also described under terms like grooming, manipulation, trauma-bonding, or even just "abuse" (because shaping is, by definition, abuse), you should probably say that someone did one of those things to you, and potentially link to this site to explain why you use certain terminology for it, but not base your allegations off of shaping.
Shapers do what they do for any reason that someone could abuse someone else. This site doesn't have all the answers for why people abuse other people, but since shaping is a form of abuse, it can occur for basically any reason that any form of abuse can occur, and abuse basically occurs because there's something the abuser stands to gain from it. Therefore, shapers are not really different from any sort of abuser and are basically motivated by personal gain in the way most abusers are, they just happen to have abuse of a system as the end goal as opposed to abuse of someone they assume or expect to be a singlet.
Shapers are not a type of person anymore than abusers are a type of person. Which is to say, it's definitely a noun that describes a certain type of thing that people do, but it's not an identity or a category of person like how an orientation, a nationality, or even a religion is a category of person.
If someone shaped someone in the past, they can learn what they did was wrong, and they can change and not abuse systems in the future. Maybe if someone who's guilty of shaping in the past sees this site, it'll help them understand that what they did was a form of abuse, because sometimes you need to hear certain terminology to understand your relation to what thoset terms describe, and thus your own past wrongdoings.
However, shapers should be regarded the same way as anyone else who abused someone in the past - potentially dangerous, namely if they haven't understood their past misdoings, but not a unique type of being, and not even a unique type of abuser per se.
Care should be taken if labeling someone from your past or present as a shaper, and this site recommends less on focusing on labeling other people as a shaper and moreso on using these words as labels to discuss your experiences in order to heal and move on from your trauma (e.g. "This is what my shapers did", not "These people are forcishapers").
Because shaping is a form of abuse, a shaper is not someone who has acted with consent. Therefore, if someone has done something with genuine actual informed consent, they have not shaped anyone. Someone who helps someone else form a willogenic system with consent, including informed consent about the methods that would be involved in the creation of the system, has not shaped someone. Whatever the term for that would be, it is not within the scope of this website.
